Cowperfest Recap

CowpersFest is our annual music and beer festival. Its a chance for us to say thanks for your support, and for everyone to have a great time while listening to our full line up of bands and sampling our beers, ciders and lagers which we bring in specially for the event. There will also be a Gin Bar, Cocktails and other surprises (things that we haven’t yet thought of) to make for a wicked day! This all backed up with our awesome rolling BBQ style foods.

The pub is open from noon each day and our eclectic line up will play from noon until 9pm on Saturday with Quo Connection our headliners for 2023.  On Sunday we pick up again at noon, with the bands playing until 6pm and some chill time before we close for the night.

CowperFest 2023 … its where you want to be

Entry Fee and VIP Tables

This year we have introduced a very small entry fee which covers both days. This both helps us with the increasing cost of running events like these and ensures that we have the facilities & safety covered for the number of people attending.

Our VIP tables proved very popluar – these are fully serviced  tables – no queuing for drinks and food or trying to find a good spot to watch the action. We charge £15 per person for this and again the charge covers both days.

Ales, Ciders and Lagers

(2022 examples, we will publish 2023 when supply is confirmed)

It’s official the Ales are in … here’s our run down of what will be on offer at the festival.  We will also have all your pub favourite lagers and ciders available.

Gt Oakley Gobble

Gobble is a rich, golden, straw-coloured beer. Floral, crisp, hoppy and nutty with a large smack of hops at the end giving a fantastic taste sensation. It has won Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards in 2016, 2011 and 2010 from both SIBA and CAMRA.

Phipps Red Star

This is a deep red, nutty 3.8% bitter based on the old NBC recipe, passed on to us by Pat Heron who started at NBC in 1954. Pat’s father was Head Brewer at NBC’s Phoenix Brewery on Bridge Street before him. Red Star is a true working man’s pint made with the traditional Mild Ale malt variety that was a staple of NBC bitters and milds in the 1950s.

Tring Ridgeway

An ever popular stalwart of our range, Ridgeway is defined by the finest UK malts balanced with the fruity characteristics of Styrian Goldings hops. This is a classic English ale at it’s most refined and drinkable.

XT Hop Kitty

A Low on ABV pale ale, huge on Hops.  Packed with more Citra and Cascade than ever before. HopKitty is bursting with intense tropical and citrus flavours.  Lightly toasted malts give a hint of sweetness before a second round of hops, big Mango and Lychee zest courtesy of a generous Citra third round of dry hopping.

Farmers Blond

From Bradfield Breweries this award winning, very pale brilliant blonde beer has citrus and summer fruit aromas making it an extremely refreshing and ‘easy drinking’ ale.

Chequered Flag

From Silverstone Brewery and engineered with a complex array of malts and hops, this dark amber beer has a sweet chocolate caramel body balanced with a clean citrus finish.

Potbelly Best

POTBELLY BEST 3.8%Brewed using a mixture of 4 different Malts together with Goldings hops to give a traditional Chestnut coloured Bitter …

Landlord

Timothy Taylors Landlord the drinkers’ favourite, a classic pale ale with a complex citrus and hoppy aroma.

It has won more awards than any other beer, winning both CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain and the Brewing Industry Awards Gold Medal four times.

Otter Bitter

Otter Bitter is a ‘session’ beer. A beer designed to slip down easily and refresh all parts of the body that need refreshing. High in taste and low in gravity makes Otter Bitter a long term friend. Otter Bitter has great condition which adds to its flavour profile. Fruit notes and well balanced malty flavours are tinged with a hint of bitterness to make Otter Bitter a Devon Beer of distinction.

Ghost Ship

Ghost Ship is a ghostly pale ale which takes its inspiration from Adnams 600-year-old haunted pub, The Bell. Brewed with a selection of malts – Pale Ale, Rye Crystal and Cara. We use Citra, and a blend of other American hop varieties to create some great citrus flavours. Bronze Medal Winner at The International Brewing Awards, 2013

Giorgio's Gin & Cocktail Bar

The Gin Bar

Popular with our ‘Fest’ goers last time was the Gin bar which will obviously be running again. As with the Ales we will add to the stock so that you can sample new gins on the day … on the understanding that in the unlikely event that you don’t drink them over the weekend they’ll be on for ever and a day until you have!!!

This is Deb’s Gin Palace …  just to show you what might be coming out to play at Cowperfest!

We called one out of the Gins just to get in the ‘spirit’ but we guess you gin lovers already have the inside track, so we are needlessly wearing out the keyboard!

Monkey47

Monkey 47 is a unique dry gin distilled in Germany’s Black Forest using a whopping 47 different botanicals from which it takes its name! These Include – mint, elderberry, allspice, cloves, ginger, and locally grown herbs like angelica, coriander and elderflower as well as hibiscus, citon verbena, pimento, and spruce. These are combined with spring water from a local distillery in the Black Forest. All the ingredients work together to give Monkey 47 a crisp, citrus flavour, with layers of floral flavours and hints of peppery spice and bitter fruit.

The Cocktail Bar

Those of you have visited the Oak lately will know that ‘G’ mixes the Cocktails! This means, according to Joe, that he gets to do it on the weekend of Cowperfest … if that’s all he gets to do he will be very lucky …

Joe's Big Cook Out

As you would expect at the Cowpers Oak food will play a central part in weekends Festivities. Joe has said ‘We’re gonna have a big cook out’.  The Garden Kitchen will come into its own. The food will keep coming until late into the evening so we are going to keep it simple and stick with festival favourites.  Just for the duration of the event.

We‘ll be serving …..

Beef, Chicken & Halloumi Burgers all in a bun.

Pizza’s Margherita or Meat

Classic Hot Dog with onion in a bun

Chilli Cheese Dogs  in a bun

Fries

Halloumi Fries
